GTS operates a structured roster system to manage callouts and after-hours work efficiently. The roster system ensures each driver and truck is ready to respond safely and effectively, while maintaining fairness and fatigue management standards.
By the end of this lesson, you’ll understand how the roster works, your responsibilities during your callout period, and how to maintain readiness for any situation.
Key points covered:
Roster Allocation:
The callout roster is fixed unless you are on approved annual or sick leave. Rosters are posted on the BrightHR App, accessible through your phone.
Shift Changes:
Any change must be arranged directly with your opposite shift. Always remember: you can only work 12 days in any 14-day period to meet fatigue management standards.
Callout Duties:
When on callout, you and your truck are the first response team for 24 hours from 8 AM. You’ll receive most jobs during this period, except where safety or logistics require otherwise.
Truck Readiness:
Keep your truck clean, fully fuelled, and mechanically ready. Presentation is important, especially during callout periods when you represent GTS at high-profile jobs.
Preparation Checklist:
Before your callout begins, make sure:
Your truck is fuelled and mechanically sound.
You have spare pages, charged tablet, pens, business cards, and all operational tools.
You’ve checked essential supplies — drinking water, food, rubbish bags, kitty litter, broom, and bedding (for heavy jobs or overnight trips).
You’re prepared for up to 3 days away, as jobs may range from local to remote.
⚠️ Remember: You must always be ready to respond within 15 minutes, whether the job is across town or out in the bush.
