The Police Work course provides GTS operators with the knowledge and practical requirements for safely and professionally completing towing work on behalf of WA Police.
The course covers the operational process for Police Major Crash, Forensic and Impound vehicles, including attending Police scenes, confirming when a vehicle is ready for loading, photographic requirements, Authority to Tow & Salvage (ATT&S) documentation, loading and restraint, transportation, unloading, storage and key handling.
It also covers the additional responsibilities involved when vehicles or property may form part of a Police investigation or forensic examination. Operators/Contractors must understand how to protect potential evidence, prevent contamination, correctly use PPE, minimise unnecessary contact with vehicles and property, maintain security and prevent unauthorised access.
Police work requires a high standard of accuracy, care, professionalism and compliance. The actions of a GTS operator can affect the integrity of evidence, a Police investigation, the security of property and GTS’s responsibilities as a towing service provider.
By completing this course, operators should understand both how to carry out a Police towing job correctly and how to protect the vehicle, property and potential evidence while it is in GTS’s care.
